This blog is not about dentistry but about my other passion, Carlsbad. We recently attended the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad gala and auction. We went because we believe in and support the Boys and Girls Club. As many of you know, the only suit I really feel comfortable in is a wetsuit (see photo), but it was a great time with lots of good people who care about Carlsbad. I would like to thank Barbie and Greg Nelson for chairing and producing a great event. I was involved years ago when the event was much smaller and the job of organizing and planning was enormous. For a good time and for a good cause I highly encourage you to attend next year.
The Boys and Girls Club is an asset to the community and one of the reasons Carlsbad is Carlsbad. For over 60 years, the club has been providing a fun, safe place to learn, grow and share. Probably one of the main reasons Carlsbad does not suffer from major gang problems is that the downtown location provides mentoring programs and an opportunity for good, clean fun. Many of the community’s leaders past and present grew up within its walls. The club has been a part of our lives too. My son played basketball in the village gym. From the age of three on my daughter danced there as part of Carlsbad Dance Center. My wife attended some of the very first Jazzercize classes, and I have been involved with the club over the years and always believed in and supported the club.
We are always looking for win/win solutions so combining our desire to continuously support the Boys and Girls Club with our desire to improve the operation of our dental office we came up with this program: For every new patient who brings in their paperwork completed either online or in hand we make a five dollar donation to the Boys and Girls Club. We save time not having to wait for paperwork to be completed and the patient feels good having contributed to a good cause. Our five hundred dollar accumulated donation was recently featured in the North County Times in the community section. The club deserves the support of the community in providing services to the youth of the city especially those in the most need. Can you think of Win/win idea to help too?
